I Am Not The Rain is the third part in the series Short Stories of Loss and Hope.
As I produce these images I think about the hope in life. I mostly think of them as positive somehow, though I can also see that they are brooding and broken.
The title is derived from the well-known idiom ‘into every life a little rain must fall’. We all endure difficult times, and sometimes we can feel that bring them upon ourselves, but it isn’t so. Rain falls, but I am not the rain.
For the technically inquisitive these are collages, the backgrounds are painted with watercolour, acrylics or cyanotype and distressed as felt right, then scanned. Photographs are then pasted over the top and the images distorted some more until I’m satisfied that they do what I want them to do, whatever that is.
